The ASU Book Group's March 2022 reading selection is "Perspectives of Five Kuwaiti Women in Leadership Roles: Feminism, Islam, and Politics” by Souad T. Ali. The book group is open to all in the ASU community and meets monthly from noon–1 p.m. with two different options for attendance: either in-person at the Piper Writers House or virtually on Zoom. In-person attendees are invited to join the author for lunch after at the University Club, no-host.

In 2005, Kuwait, a country that is more than 90% Muslim, passed laws granting women both the right to vote and the right to run in elections. In her new book, reveals how these and other advancements have affected them on an individual and societal level. Ali was inspired to write “Perspectives” during her 2009–2010 Faculty Fulbright Fellowship at the American University of Kuwait.

The book is available on and through local bookstores.

Souad T. Ali is an associate professor of Arabic in the School of International Letters and Cultures at ASU.
