‘Public Humanities’: Read our latest newsletter

Kristen LaRue-Sandler

The new issue of Accents on English, the Department of English at Arizona State University's annual newsletter, is themed around the public humanities, which at its most basic, aspires to connect academic endeavor to the public good. Here you'll find stories of poetry in the streets, of an ambitious translation project, and of a prison teaching experience.

Read contributor essays about undergrads who adapted to the "new normal" of remote learning, about a grassroots campaign to help struggling students, and about a new faculty member who uses ceramics as stress relief (her "Copper Glaze Plate" is the header image for the newsletter).

It's not cliché to say that now, perhaps more than ever, the world needs what the humanities can provide: context, history, and connection.

We hope you find something enlightening here.
