Homecoming Writing Contest winners 'wow' at reading event
On Wednesday, October 19, the ASU Department of English announced the winners of the 2016 Homecoming Writing Contest at the “Performance and the Archive” event which featured readings by the first-place winners as well as a special presentation by Assistant Professor of English Jacqueline Wernimont.
This year’s competition attracted more than 100 entries. Many thanks to judges Sally Ball, Matt Bell, and Hearing Maring for their work identifying the top picks!
- Delaney Kranz won in the fiction category for "Your Sticky Plastic Seat."
- Jordan Mychal Dahlen won for poetry with "Who Were You When You Were Approaching the Ocean."
- Ashley Barnard won the scholarly essay category with her paper, "Missing Letters: John Updike's S. and Bharati Mukherjee's Holder of the World as Counterwritings of The Scarlet Letter."
Congratulations to these students whose entries rose to the top of a very talented pool.
