This book scholarship was created by Dr. Jai Young Park who earned his BA in English (1997) and his PhD in English (2004) at Arizona State University. He is currently an associate professor and chair of the Department of English Education in the College of Education at Chonbuk National University in Korea.
Criteria: Must be a currently enrolled international graduate student in the Department of English and making good progress.
This award is made possible by an endowment named for Wilfred Ferrell, a former director of graduate studies and English department chair. Bill Ferrell had a very strong interest in strengthening the English graduate program at ASU. The award amount will be approximately $500.
Criteria: The recipient must be a PhD student in good standing in the English Department and must have completed one year of coursework by December of the year preceding the grant.

The Marvin Fisher Book Award is given biannually to an international student enrolled in a graduate program in the Department of English. The award is $250 and is to be used for the purchase of books needed by the applicant.
Criteria: Recipient must be an international student currently enrolled in the Department of English. Recipient must have at least a 3.00 GPA.
Established at ASU in 1994 with a bequest from English and Creative Writing professor Katharine C. Turner, the Academy of American Poets' Katharine C. Turner Prize is a prestigious recognition of fine student poetry in the United States.

The Katharine Turner Endowed Fellowship is a cash award designed to assist doctoral candidates in the Department of English working in the field of American literature.
The award is approximately $13,000 (half distributed in the fall semester and half distributed in the spring semester).

The Carl C. Carlie Linguistics Fellowship was created by Joan Berry, a former student, and her husband Charles Berry in honor of Joan’s grandfather Carl C. Carlie. The fellowship amount will be approximately $680 and will be awarded in the fall semester to a graduate student in linguistics in the Department of English.
