Katharine Turner Endowed Fellowship

The Katharine Turner Endowed Fellowship is a cash award designed to assist doctoral candidates in the Department of English working in the field of American Literature who are finishing their dissertations.

The award is approximately $13,000 (half distributed in the Fall semester and half distributed in the Spring semester).

Applicants who want to be considered for the Katharine Turner Endowed Fellowship must upload one PDF document containing a letter of application (including a work plan for the proposed year of support), a curriculum vitae, a two-page description of the dissertation explaining its significance to the field, and a letter of support from the  dissertation chair that addresses the applicant's strengths and potential to complete the dissertation in a timely manner.

The Awards Committee will also consider the following criteria when reviewing for the fellowship: 1) how expeditiously the student has progressed through the program; 2) has the student adhered to the PhD Timeline; 3) how many chapters of the dissertation have been written; 4) has the student presented at conferences or published in journals; 5) is it likely that the student will graduate by the end of the fellowship.
