The John Doebler Memorial Award in Shakespeare and Renaissance Studies

The John Doebler Memorial Award in Shakespeare and Renaissance Studies is given for the best undergraduate critical or scholarly paper written on Shakespeare or Renaissance studies. The amount is approximately $975 and is awarded in the spring semester each year.

Bettie Anne Doebler and her family, friends and colleagues established the John Doebler Prize in Memory of Professor Doebler in 1995.

To be eligible for this award, students should be in an undergraduate program in the Department of English or related area. There is no minimum GPA or residency requirement, and both part-time and full-time students are eligible.

Note: Prior to 2013, this award was given by the Graduate Scholars in English Association (GSEA) for an outstanding paper in renaissance studies presented at the Southwest Graduate English Symposium. The recipient could be an undergraduate or graduate student in any university but had to participate in the symposium to claim the award. The paper could cover any topic, genre or figure associated with renaissance studies, and was judged anonymously.
