Marking the end of 23-24: Another remarkable academic year
By Kristen LaRue-Sandler—July 3, 2024
The Department of English at ASU gathered in celebration of 2023-2024 graduates and award-winners in a festive end to the academic year on May 9, 2024 in Ross-Blakley Hall, ASU Tempe campus, as well as on Zoom.
Then English Chair Krista Ratcliffe—a Foundation Professor and leading scholar of rhetoric—kicked off the event with a thoughtful invocation to tolerance and acceptance: "Embracing the Both/And." Spring 2024 Dean's Medalist in English, Chris Hoshnic then spoke about his ASU journey and thanked his mentors, family and friends for their support.
The event concluded with an address by Bob Sommer, co-founder with English alum Gayle Shanks of Changing Hands Bookstore (now in its 50th year), who presented Changing Hands gift cards to all graduates in attendance.
