Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award

The ASU Department of English Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award is granted each spring and recognizes the excellent teaching achievements of doctoral students in the Department of English.  Two awards of $1,000 each may be granted each year.  Eligible candidates must be doctoral students in the Department of English and in good academic standing during the academic year in which the award is made.

Nomination Process:

Nominations may only be made by tenured or tenure-track faculty and must be for the current academic year. A nomination packet will consist of a cover letter describing the excellence of the nominee as a teacher as well as two letters in support of the nominee's teaching excellence based on class observation. One letter must be from a faculty member in a Writing Programs course; the other should be from a faculty member in the area of the student's specialization within the PhD program.  In addition, full student teaching evaluations for all courses taught by the nominee at ASU must be included in the nomination packet.

Nominations due: :  Nominations are due via the online submission form by February 1.  

Nominations will be reviewed by a faculty committee. Final recommendations will be forwarded to the department chair for final review. Winners will be announced in April.  Awardees will be recognized at the Department of English Awards Ceremony in the spring.
