Mary Green (1931 - 2014)
Former faculty member Mary Green passed away on December 21, 2014. Mary was born in Jamaica, New York in 1931. She graduated from Queens College in 1952 and afterward began teaching high school on Long Island, NY. Mary received her MA from St John's University in 1961, and in 1962 received the prestigious John Hay Fellowship for high school teachers. As a result, she was awarded a University of Chicago fellowship in 1964 to work on her PhD in English, which she received from the University of Chicago in 1969. Mary moved to Arizona in 1967 and joined the faculty at ASU, retiring as Assistant Dean, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, in 1992. Throughout her life, Mary traveled and cherished her time at Ivy Lea in the 1000 Islands in Canada, where she spent most summers. She will be remembered for her remarkable life of service and her spirited commitment to teaching.
